Mary Bargar

This month marked the 110th anniversary of the election of Mary Bargar as city clerk of Jamestown, New York. Mary Bargar was a school teacher and daughter of early leader of the Women's suffrage movement in Jamestown. She was nominated by the Prohibition Party, and became one of the earliest women elected to office in New York State (nearly a decade before women’s suffrage was established in New York State).
