Christian and Missionary Alliance

The Alliance does not have a statement related to alcohol as a part of its doctrinal commitment.  As a matter of practice, we have historically asked licensed official workers within the denomination to refrain from the use of alcoholic beverages.  That has been regarded as a matter of wisdom, leadership by example, and personal spiritual discipline.  However, whether or not abstinence is required for membership at the local church level is entirely a local church issue.  In many areas of the country it would be common for alcohol to be forbidden.  But that is not necessarily true for every congregation in the denomination.  At the same time, the consensus is that abstinence is a wise policy and an exercise in biblical freedom.  It is not understood to be absolutely prohibited by Holy Scripture.  Rev. Daniel R. Wetzel, Interim Vice President of Church Ministries, 2014.
