Judge Obadiah Brown Hewett

Judge Hewett (1828 until some time after 1890) studied law at Chicago (AB 1855, AM 1882).  He was principal of a public school, there, 1857-58, then practiced law in Brownville, Nebraska 1858-1860.  He served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company M of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment of Nebraska Volunteers 1862-1864, then farmed at Brownville 1864-67.
      Hewett then took up the practice of law in Hastings, Nebraska.  He was a Judge of Probate, a Chief Clerk of the Council of the Territorial Legislature, then chief clerk of the Senate of Nebraska.  He was District Attorney of the 2nd Judicial district of Nebraska 1868-73. Member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1879-81.
