The Interfaith Alliance, an ecumenical group, advocates that government refrain from trying to impose a secular definition of marriage on a religiously diverse nation. Instead, it believes that religious freedom would best be served by allowing each religious tradition to affirm or refuse same-sex unions on the grounds of its own doctrines.
